When participating in a discussion group, the positive testimonials are unanimous: it pays off. Whether virtual or face-to-face, the discussion group provides access to an invaluable resource: peer support.
Finding comfort, developing self-confidence by speaking out regularly, listening to other parents, and realizing that more than one family is experiencing emotions linked to prematurity are the benefits of a discussion group.
Parents who join the discussion group can speak out regularly in exchanges focused on their child's prematurity, an experience shared by all participants. Although most of them join the group seeking help, they quickly become caregivers who see their stress diminish by listening to each other.

We hear it all the time: when faced with a challenge, the best way to get the upper hand is to talk about it! Prematurity is a significant challenge, so at Préma Québec, we encourage you to speak up through various activities, including our virtual discussion group, held every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 12:30 p.m., which lasts about 75 minutes.
Through this group, facilitated by an experienced social worker, participants (including parents who have experienced prematurity, other family members who would like to join the group, etc.) are invited to come and find the support and listening skills they need when their premature baby arrives and during their stay in hospital. Here are some other benefits and information provided by the discussion group:
